Former Film Producer Finds a New Flooring Future

After 15 successful years in the film industry, veteran independent film producer Taylor Williams, 51, has embarked on an exciting new journey by launching a Floor Coverings International (FCI) franchise in Van Nuys. The grand opening of this innovative flooring business took place on November 1, 2025, and it aims to serve the vibrant communities of Van Nuys, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana, North Hollywood, and Valley Village.
Williams, a Studio City resident, transitioned from his past career in film production and set decoration to embrace a new venture that promises more stability and growth.
“I enjoyed filmmaking and experienced many successes, but the industry has evolved in ways that left my business model unsustainable,” said Williams. “I realized I wanted to build something rooted in a permanent consumer need—a business that could thrive for years to come.”
During his time in the film industry, Williams honed skills that are invaluable in his new venture. He developed a keen eye for design while collaborating with talented production designers and directors. Producing independent films taught him how to budget effectively, creatively solve problems, and manage diverse teams working towards a common vision.
“Now, I’m eager to translate these skills to the flooring industry,” he added.
The decision to invest in FCI was motivated by the company’s proven business model and nationwide brand recognition.
“I found the opportunity to be a great avenue for me to develop and own a small business that serves my community,” he explained. “FCI’s support has been instrumental in helping me navigate the new challenges of the flooring industry and small business ownership.”
Williams’ passion for design extends to the flooring products he will offer. He has always appreciated the warmth and beauty of solid wood and cork floors, but he is also excited about the advancements in luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and engineered wood options. “These products provide a similar aesthetic with increased ease of installation and durability,” he noted. Additionally, he looks forward to exploring creative uses for carpet products, from turf to tufted styles.
As a family-oriented entrepreneur, Williams is starting small, involving his children in the business by having them help paint the office and distribute promotional materials in the neighborhood. He envisions building a legacy for his children, with hopes they will one day take over the business.
“I feel old enough to have gained wisdom, but still young enough to start something new,” he shared. “I’m excited to serve the community I grew up in and create something lasting for my family and future generations.”
